Small summer festivals abound, don’t bother to plan: walk out of your front door and follow the scent of cooking to find the nearest feast – a sausage-dog contest where the owner of the longest dog gets its length in sausage; dumpling festivals; swimming festivals; trout-eating festivals; medieval pageants. All have three things in common: plentiful beer, excellent sausages and a great atmosphere.
