Not varying much from the solo sound he’s adopted for most of his lute-free career, The Last Ship takes us back to the root of his fascination with craftsmanship: the shipyard at the end of the Wallsend street where he was raised. He once said his first memory “was a very powerful image of this huge ship towering above the house” and is currently in the process of turning those memories into a musical about the demise of the industry in Eighties Newcastle.
