And those are the ones we demonise the most. In our own time, Myra Hindley has been the iconic murderess, a figure so recognisable it was only a year ago (after living in the UK some 13 years) I saw a picture of Ian Brady and realised I wouldn\'t have been able to say who it was. Myra\'s defiant stare and white bouffant, by contrast, are instantly recognisable. Would the furore over Marcus Harvey\'s portrait of her made using casts of infants\' hands have caused such a sensation if it had been Brady?
